JO Sims expands freeze dried fruit range by appointing International Freeze Dried (IFD) of Colombia as principals

We have received the following news item from J.O.Sims:

Leading UK fruit ingredients specialist J.O. Sims has appointed a new Colombian principal, International Freeze Dried (IFD). The agreement enables J.O. Sims to meet growing demand for exotic variations by supplying a wide range of freeze dried indigenous tropical fruits including uchuva, strawberry, mango, pineapple and Andean blackberry. From its base in Bogota, Colombia, IFD grows, selects and freeze-dries its own fruits, allowing quality to be closely monitored and maintained throughout the supply chain.

Commenting on the agreement, Lee Doleman, general manager of the ingredients division of J.O. Sims confirmed: “IFD stands out among its competitors for its use of fresh ingredients, highquality produce and guaranteed year-round fruit supply. These were key factors in our decision to appoint IFD. We were also very impressed by the staff and culture at the plant, particularly the way in which product quality is carefully managed.”

Although the UK freeze-dried market is currently dominated by traditional red berries and blends such as apricot and peach, consumer demand for more unusual tastes and flavours is growing. As a result, there is considerable scope to expand the range of exotic freeze-dried fruits used in products such as cereals, desserts and bakery mixes. J.O. Sims’ agreement with IFD will guarantee supply of these innovative ingredients to UK food manufacturers.
