EHL Ingredients Now Supplies Gluten Free Coriander and Cumin
EHL Ingredients, a leading importer, blender and packer of food ingredients from around the world, is launching two new gluten-free ingredients in response to the increase in consumer demand for free from food products. The first ingredients to launch as guaranteed tested gluten-free are ground cumin and ground coriander.

EHL’s new product development team noticed a growing trend of health-conscious consumers, where gluten-free products were working their way up to the top of the agenda as the leading trademark of ‘clean’ eating and the Paleo diet. There is also a rise in food allergy sufferers in the UK and both factors led to the launch of these two new gluten-free ingredients.

Ground cumin and ground coriander are highly popular ingredients at EHL, so the team has worked with suppliers to source a gluten-free version to service food manufacturers’ increasing interest in ingredients suitable for free from foods.

Tasneem Backhouse, sales director at EHL Ingredients, says: “Our conventional ground cumin and ground coriander ingredients are performing well, so we wanted to offer these popular products to tap in to the growing demand for gluten-free foods. We’re aiming to launch an entire range of gluten-free ingredients which will appeal to manufacturers looking to service the health-conscious consumer market.”

One in 100 people in the UK suffers with coeliac disease (intolerance to gluten), with the prevalence rising to one in ten for close family members.[1] Therefore, food manufacturers and processors looking to create quality gluten-free dishes, for supermarket shelves or foodservice outlets should start stocking up on these versatile new ingredients to offer suitable alternatives to traditional recipes.

Tasneem says: “The gluten-free ground coriander and ground cumin ingredients can be used in curries, tagines, sauces and casseroles to ensure those with a gluten intolerance don’t have to compromise on flavour.

“Since launch, the gluten-free ingredients have proved extremely popular with our customers, and EHL has seen a 10 per cent spike in sales since they became available. This confirms to us that there is a real need for gluten-free in the ingredients market, and we look forward to developing the range even further.

“Gluten-free is a hot topic of conversation in the food industry right now so it’s important for food manufacturers to stay one step ahead and use popular, quality products that consumers will love and buy time and again.”

To ensure that EHL’s ingredients are 100 per cent gluten-free, it carries out a rigorous auditing process for all of its suppliers. Additionally, at its headquarters in Stockport, Cheshire, it follows strict hygiene procedures to ensure that there is no cross-contamination, providing the very best in quality for its customers and is certified grade A by BRC Global Standards.

As well as the new gluten-free ingredients, EHL stocks around 200 organic ingredients, including herbs and spices, beans, lentils and peas, herbs, nuts and dried fruits, seeds and flakes, grains and rice, oils, vinegars, salts, sugars and syrups, as well as other ingredients such as flour, honey and fruit concentrates.

EHL also offers a range of 30 organic blends, as well as bespoke organic herb and spice blends which can be sold as ready-made mixes or marinades. Its products are available to food manufacturers and meat processors, wholesalers and cash and carries, co-packers, multiple retailers, health food stores and large co-operatives.
