The 2012/13 ARGENTINE PEANUT CROP HAS BEEN THE MOST POOR IN THE LAST 5 YEARS

According to what was observed as at July 7, 2013, the progress make infer that if the current weather conditions continue, it should end the peanut harvest during next week in the southern, southwestern region of the province of Cordoba, north of the province of La Pampa and Southeast of the province of San Luis.

The farmers and contractors of those areas are now harvesting the peanuts lots that have been harder hit by the severe drought that occurred during January, February and the first half of March, so that the yields are very poor. What is more, in some fields of the region, there were lots which were not dug.

It has been so variable the weather conditions in this area that in some fields there were good and very good yields.

In relation to the estimated yields for the whole central peanut region of Argentina, we indicate a definitive average yield between 2,200-2,500 kg. Of in-shell peanuts per hectare.

The known extremes are very broad, so that it is difficult to be more precise with the indicated figures.

It may be said that the kernel / pod (Grade) relation is around 61-64%, noting also that the extremes have been very different, with 40/45% of kernels (Grade) and others with over 70% of kernels (Grade).

The 2012/13 Argentine Peanut Crop has been the poorest in the last five years.
