ARGENTINE PEANUT REPORT

2012/2013 PEANUT PLANTING ADVANCE

In the South Central area of Cordoba. it can be stated that the planting advance may be between 35-45%. Towards the north of the region, the advance exceeds the 60%.

As regards the peanut emergency situation, it can generally be considered that it evolves slowly, mainly because of very wet soil´s conditions and lack of sunny days, which makes the soil’s temperatures remain low, delaying the germination and causing a delay in the emergency.

THE PEANUT AREA IN ARGENTINA WOULD INCREASE 8%

The survey of the Cereals Board of Cordoba, estimates a planting area for the 2012/2013 campaign of 386,560 hectares among the provinces of Cordoba, La Pampa and San Luis, which would increase in almost 8% the area compared with it in the previous cycle.

If we take into account these numbers that are related to the planting intention of many producers and companies of the sector and we add approximately 10,000 hectares that would be planted in the provinces of Jujuy and Salta to the estimated hectares for Cordoba, La Pampa and San Luis, it is possible to project nearly 400,000 hectares to be planted in this cycle.

The nearly 400,000 hectares of peanuts that would be planted in the 2012/2013 campaign at a country level is a major challenge for the entire peanut chain of the Argentine origin, considering the OVER ESXPORTABLE SUPPLY OF THE U.S.A..

WORLD PEANUT MARKET

The trading activity in the world peanut market is practically null. As buyers are certain that there will be very cheap peanut price in the market, they have stopped their trading activity.

Only a little more time needs to goes by until the raw edible peanut out of the U.S.A be physically available in Europe, European buyers will continue supplying themselves with what was shipped from Argentina and with the limited peanut stocks in Europe.

The prices for the raw runner peanut indicated from the USA are in fact the lowest in the world peanut market.

For the blanched runner peanut, the prices from Argentina and the USA are, in general, similar. The reason is based on the fact that the U.S.A does not have the necessary processing capacity to ship new 2012 crop with prompt shipment. The blanching capacity in the U.S.A is not enough to meet the additional demand of blanched peanut that has been generated by the current levels of the raw runner peanut.

The blanched peanut demand will be met by the Argentine Origin until the U.S.A releases its capacity.

The raw peanut still has room to decrease in price due to the JOINT OFFER of Argentina and the U.S.A, with shipments from November onwards.

In the international market, the quotation for the new 2012 peanut crop of the North American Origin was REDUCED at USD/MT. 1,350 & 1,395 CIF Rott., for its Raw Runner 40/50 (Medium) and 38/42 (Jumbo), respectively, with shipment during the period November 2012 / February 2013, and under EU quality specifications.

The Blanched Runner Peanut quotes between USD/MT. 225 & 250 over the Raw peanut.

The ARGENTINE Origin REDUCED its lowest representative price level at USD/MT. 1,400 and 1,430 C&F Rott. with shipment in November / December, and at USD/MT. 1,350 & 1,380 C&F Rott. With shipment in January / February 2013, for the Raw Edible Runner 40/50 and 38/42 respectively of the 2012 peanut crop, and under EU quality specifications.

The lowest representative quotation for the Blanched Edible Runner 40/50 and 38/42 of the 2012 peanut crop of the Argentine Origin is at USD/MT. 1,550 and 1,580 C&F Rott., with shipment during the period November 2012 / March 2013, and under EU quality specifications.
